Seller: rodwil0 (1,905) 99.4%, Location: Billericay, Ships to: Americas, Europe, Asia, AU, Item: 163367509074 Busch Prisma-Binocle “Terlux” 15x binoculars – Hong Kong interest The Busch Terlux model affectionately known as ‘the drunken binocular’ or ‘liver sausage binocular’ was made over a long period from around 1906 to 1935. Although they have an unusual shape they were easy to handle with bright viewing and were very popular especially with the British Navy. They came in various magnifications and were inscribed differently over the years. This pair are inscribed Busch Prisma – Binocle Mod. “Terlux” on the top plates and carry 15x magnification on the hinge spindle washer. The hinge frame is also stamped with the serial number 64987. These are a later version having the strap lugs cast into the hinge frame. They also have the retailers name of A. Franks Ld. Manchester, stamped on the hinge frame. Additionally, they have N.S.L. z/340 neatly scratched on one top cover plate. These binoculars are in decent original condition. The paint on the Aluminium parts has flaked off but is ok on the cover plates, bridge, and spindle. The solder filled inscriptions are still very clear. The leather covering is very good with none missing and no damage. The lenses and prisms are clean, clear, and collimated providing excellent clear viewing. The central and individual focus operate smoothly. One eye cup is cracked but still allows the ocular to focus correctly. Replacements are readily available on ebay. The sun shades slide in and out smoothly. They have a leather neck strap which is secure and usable. The binoculars come with their original brown leather case which unfortunately has lost its lid. This is a shame because the rest of the case is in very good condition. Interestingly, the case has P. H. Holyoak Hong Kong written on the bottom. Percy Hobson Holyoak 1874-1926, was an unofficial member of the Executive and Legislative Council of Hong Kong. He first arrived in the Far East as a member of Reiss & Co., a well-known Manchester trading firm in Hong Kong since 1864. This ties in with the Manchester retailer’s inscription on the binoculars. Would international bidders please enquire for postage costs. Please note for absolute clarity, that in addition to the honest description made in good faith, the photographs form an integral part of the description and it is incumbent upon the buyer to seek further information if there is any uncertainty about age, condition or functionality. All parcels will be sent with full insurance and requiring a signature upon delivery. The full purchase value will be quoted on customs documentation and all import duties will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. Condition: Used
